Kommetjie Main Road upgrades right on track

The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas, went out to Kommetjie yesterday, 2 April 2025, to see the progress the project team is making on the upgrade of Kommetjie Main Road between the intersections of Capri Drive and Wood Road. The project aims to improve the eastbound link capacity along Kommetjie Main Road, as well as to improve the intersection levels at Chasmay Road, Pokela Road and Lekkerwater Road.
This project is a Transport System Management initiative to address the congestion in the area. The City will be dualling the road and if all goes as planned, the work should be complete by the end of September this year. In the coming months, residents can still expect the relocation of trees, road widening and road resurfacing.
‘I was encouraged to see the amount of headway the contractor has made with the necessary underground works. I am aware that those driving through may not notice the work as most of it is happening where it is not visible to the general public. Though, I want to assure you the project is progressing well and that the sequencing ensures that we accommodate the cycle lanes and public transport stops as the project progresses. The road widening will follow after all the underground infrastructure relocations have been done.
‘We thank residents and road users who commute through the area for their patience and cooperation thus far. Frustrating as these works may be now, once complete, our residents will enjoy some traffic congestion relief and a better quality road overall,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
